The Arts University College at Bournemouth, established in 1885 as a specialist institute, is now a leading university sector institution offering high quality specialist education in arts, design and media across the creative industries. The Arts Institute at Bournemouth was awarded Taught Degree Awarding Powers in 2008 and has subsequently been awarded status of University College by the Privy Council. On 1st July 2009 the school name officially changed to THE ARTS UNIVERSITY COLLEGE AT BOURNEMOUTH. They remain passionate about the subjects and continue to encourage curiosity, risk-taking and adventure in exploring and pushing subject knowledge and its boundaries. Each course has an allocated number of places for UK and international students, which helps to ensure that all overseas students integrate with British students as much as possible.
The majority of programmes have comparatively small year groups, ensuring that students have a greater chance of getting the attention and support that they expect and need.
Accommodation
If you’re thinking of coming to study at AUCB there are two main types of accommodation to consider – halls of residence, and private rented accommodation. Both have their pros and cons and you’ll need to consider all the options before committing yourself. BA (Hons) Degree - this is the traditional university undergraduate degree programme (three years full time).
Foundation Degree (FdA) - this is a two year (full time) degree programme, for students looking for a practical, work based degree, or for those who might already be in the workplace or planning a career change. They offer an opportunity to articulate to the third year of a BA (Hons) Degree upon successful completion.Postgraduate Study
The MA course offers pathways in Animation, Costume, Fine Art, Graphic Design, Interactive Media and Photography and gives students the opportunity to build on their achievements, studying at an advanced level. Students from all pathways study together creating the potential for innovation and the collaboration of ideas and research methods.
Preparation for Higher Education

The Arts University College at Bournemouth offers a ‘Saturday Art School’ for children of courses in art, design and media subjects throughout the year.Study Abroad
Study Abroad is for students who want to spend time learning in the UK, but do not necessarily want to spend as much as 2-3 years studying.
PGCE
This course enables participants to become effective, specialist teachers in the post-compulsory sector of education. It integrates the practical experience of teaching Arts, Design and Media with the professional studies of educational theory.
Health Service
AUCB’s Student Services work in partnership with the local Village Surgery to provide two on-campus medical surgeries each week. Appointments are available during a Monday and Wednesday lunchtime, and you can make an appointment by contacting Student Services on 01202 363703.
