University of Bedfordshire

Overview

The University of Bedfordshire is based in Luton and Bedford, the two largest towns in the English county of Bedfordshire. The university was created by the merger of the University of Luton and the Bedford campus of De Montfort University following approval by the Privy Council.
The University has a growing global reputation. The number of applications to the University has nearly doubled in two years and this popularity makes the University of Bedfordshire the most ‘upwardly mobile’ university in the country according to the Times Higher Education.
In the British Government’s recent UK-wide Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) 2008, much of our research was described as 'world-leading' and of 'international significance'. As a consequence, University’s research funding more than doubled.
The University of Bedfordshire is proud of the excellent track record on employability, with 92 per cent of graduates in work and/or further study within six months of graduation.

Location

Bedfordshire lies north of London and offers a rich, rural landscape complemented by thriving towns and picturesque villages. Luton and Bedford have been home to university students for many years and are friendly, welcoming and supportive places to live. London is very close and easy to reach from both the Luton and Bedford campuses. Luton and Bedford are on the same train line into London's St. Pancras International station and it takes around 40 minutes from Bedford and 22 minutes from Luton on a fast train.
Luton isn't just one of the UK's largest towns, but also one of its most diverse. In all, more than 140 different nationalities make up this vibrant, multicultural society. Bedford is an idyllic riverside town on a beautiful stretch of the River Great Ouse only 40 minutes from London by train.
It has excellent transport links to the rest of the UK as it sits between two major motorways, and the rest of Europe can be easily accessed as London Luton and London Stanstead Airports are both within easy reach.
Bedford's surrounding area has a wealth of parks and open spaces.

Campuses

The university has two main campuses: Luton (in the town centre), and Bedford (on Polhill Avenue). Both these campuses have on campus accommodation. There are also two dedicated campuses for the teaching of nursing and midwifery degrees at Butterfield Park on the outskirts of Luton and at the Buckinghamshire campus at Oxford House in Aylesbury. The university also has a fifth site which is Putteridge Bury, home of the University of Bedfordshire's Knowledge Hub and postgraduate Business School.
