Overview

The University of Brighton was formed as Brighton Polytechnic in 1968 by the merging of Brighton College of Technology and Brighton College of Art. Brighton Polytechnic was expanded in September 1976 by a merger with Brighton College of Education, and in April 1979 incorporated the East Sussex College of Higher Education at Eastbourne. It was awarded full university status in 1992.
The University of Brighton is a community of 21,000 students and 2,100 staff based on five campuses in Brighton, Eastbourne and Hastings. The University of Brighton has one of the best teaching quality ratings in the UK and a strong research record, factors which contribute to its reputation as a leading post-1992 university.

Ranking

'The Sunday Times University Guide 2006' University League Table ranks Brighton University 56th overall in the UK. It also ranks Brighton 3rd in the 'Top Ten Modern Universities' in the UK. Brighton remains the only modern university to be named 'Sunday Times University of the Year'.

Once you're here you can make the most of the facilities, services and support we offer to all of our students including modern library, computing, and laboratory facilities; comprehensive careers, academic and personal support and opportunities to volunteer or take part in sport.

Accommodation

We work to ensure that all our students have access to well-priced, good quality accommodation. There are 1,900 places available in university halls, costing between £66-£127 per week. The university manages a further 400 rooms in the private sector. Find-a-home days help students find private rented accommodation and housemates.

Campus

The University of Brighton is based on five campuses in Brighton, Eastbourne and Hastings.  Brighton and Eastbourne offer plenty to do all year round. You'll find clubs, live music, shops, restaurants and bars, galleries and museums. Brighton and Eastbourne are lively and safe, with better than average weather, award-winning beaches and we have the South Downs on our doorstep.

Location

East Sussex is situated in the South-east of England. Brighton is 90 km from London, and Eastbourne is 125 km from London. Eastbourne is 40 km from Brighton.
Travel links are excellent. The M25/M23 motorway link provides easy road access to London and the rest of the country, whilst mainland Europe is a short journey by air, train or ship from various departure points.

Brighton to London Victoria: 55 minutes
Brighton to London Gatwick Airport: 30 minutes
