Overview
Northampton Technical College opened in 1932 and was followed by the School of Art in 1937. The College of Education, at Park Campus, was opened in 1972. In 1975, Nene College was formed from the amalgamation of the College of Education, College of Technology and College of Art. The institution became University College Northampton in 1999.In 2005 University College Northampton was awarded university title and full research degree awarding powers becoming The University of Northampton.

The University of Northampton occupies two sites: Park Campus at Kingsthorpe, a suburb of Northampton; and Avenue Campus, close to Northampton town centre and opposite one of the largest open parkland areas in Northampton. The Avenue Campus of the University of Northampton is adjacent to one of the largest parkland areas in Northampton and is located just one mile from the town centre. Fast gaining a reputation as a major centre for art, design, technology, architecture and the performing arts, the campus is equipped with workshops, laboratories, computer aided design suites and hosts art gallery viewings, theatre performances and exhibitions.The Park Campus houses the Northampton Business School, the School of Education, School of Health and School of Social Sciences. The impressive array of facilities on campus includes an extensive library, a modern restaurant, a sports hall, shops, bars and a nightclub. Park Campus is also ideally located within easy walking distance of banks and supermarkets.
